Bats' Sky By Luke Brohman

88x44 cm A sunset in Meanjin wouldn't be the same without a dazzling sky of intense colour and the jaunty silhouette of a fruit bat, or two... or many. This piece is a love letter to Brisbane's epic sunsets, cloud vistas, and a sometimes controversial creature that often dominates sky-spaces nearest the bay. Artist Luke Brohman grew up near Sandgate, along the mangrove creeks, and remembers fondly the twilight creatures that stir and move in masses of strange and erratic patterns. Made with acrylic, resin and mixed media, this heavily textured and brightly coloured painting evokes the leathery, gnarly features of the fruit bat.
