Mirage of Memories By Kath McCann
51x51 cm

Conceptually, reflection can be viewed literally or figuratively. In our literal, physical world, we think of mirrors, pools of still water, glass. However, reflection also speaks of contemplation, musings, deliberation: a process essential to human existence. The alignment between physical and metaphysical reflection is explored in this series of work.

Louis L'amour reminds us that 'Today is all we have; tomorrow is a mirage that may never become reality.'

Just as the mirrored reflection is a poor shadow of reality, our musings are but a perception of the truth. This floating mirage of memories can overpower us if we do not accept that are internal reflections of the past are coloured by our own perceptions.
