Block 27 By Valeriia Kopeva
Dimensions: 29x42 cm
Medium: Water Colour/Gouache

As an immigrant now calling Australia home, I carry a an old Eastern apartment block facade within me: a patchwork of stories, textures, and colours that shaped my sense of belonging.
This work reflects how places we leave behind remain etched in our minds, even as we build new lives in new landscapes. The building's bleak surroundings and snow remind me of childhood, while the warm tones (unusual for this style of architecture) reflect new memories made under warm Australian sun.
Through this piece, I invite viewers to reflect on the way places and pasts shape who we become, and how each new address we inhabit adds another layer to our evolving story.
