| Wild Light is an ecstatic, imagined landscape where colour takes the lead. A vivid celebration of rhythm and contrast, this work brings together lush greens, warm ochres and vivid pinks detailing in a layered, botanical tapestry. While none of the plant forms are literal, they pulse with the recognisable energy of native flora — reinterpreted through a playful, abstracted lens.
This piece was born from a desire to explore joy as a visual force. I wanted to capture the kind of light that flickers through leaves on a hot afternoon — shifting, unexpected, and full of movement. The high-contrast layering, bold linework, and unexpected colour pairings are designed to keep the eye in motion, creating a sense of playful abundance.
Each motif is developed instinctively: nothing is sketched or pre-planned. I allow the painting to build organically, trusting in repetition and mark-making to guide the balance. The result is a piece that feels alive — a wild, energetic garden suspended in motion.
This work is part of my ongoing exploration into imagined botanicals as emotional language — celebrating nature not as it is, but as it feels. |
