| Hi, I'm Debbie Banks. I started drawing at a young age and had to re-draw a portrait I did of Sir Edmund Hillary as my Dad thought that I had traced it. I was 8yo. On and off over the years, I kept my eye and hand in by drawing, for gifts, or helping my children with their school assignments, but never truly took my art to the next level, until just before my 60th birthday. My children had all left home and had families of their own, so when I came upon an art group near where I lived, I joined and decided that it was time for me to get serious about my Art.
My first entry into any exhibition/competition was a juried exhibit, just to get accepted. I was notified on my 60th birthday that I had been accepted ... a huge surprise. Though I didn't win any of the judged awards, I won People’s Choice and the council who ran the Exhibition, bought my painting.
That was 7 yrs ago.
Since then, I have entered a few exhibitions, again winning People’s Choice, as well as being a part of a successful joint exhibition in 2022.
I love Australia, from the coast to the bush and all of her flora and fauna, which I truly try to capture as realistically as I can.
I truly believe that Mother Nature is perfect in all of her perfect imperfections and if I can replicate that to the enth degree, I feel that I have honoured her. |
