| I began my love of drawing as a young girl and it has always been my escape from the realities of life. It has become wholeheartedly ingrained in me over the years and I believe discovering the wonders of coloured pencils around 10 years ago was the beginning of my art career. Now that I am retired, I can now immerse myself in my love of coloured pencils which allows me to create the level of detail I so love to represent in my work. I have proudly been a winner and finalist in regional art awards, I’ve also had my work showcased in the US based Colour Magazine and have been a featured artist on an online gallery.
The inspiration for Girl In Kimono came from a beautiful reference by Susan Roghair. Her photo struck me immediately with the pose of serenity and the colours of the kimono. I wanted to transfer the emotions and flavours I felt with my coloured pencils, hoping to show the delicacy of the hint of smooth skin as well as the striking patterns and colours of her kimono.
Outback Women Living the Life was born from a photo of my daughter. She is a professional photographer and she and her friends decided to have a bit of fun one afternoon and dragged out an old bathtub, grabbed their hats and boots and created some magic. This image epitomised perfectly the feeling of relaxation after a hard days work, soaking up the last rays of the sun with a drink or three. I choose to draw this in tones of sepia to allow the viewer to see the message rather than the colour.
