| I studied at St Martin's School Of Art in London graduating in graphics with a BA many moons ago. I made the move to Australia in 1986 and once I left full time employment in my 50's I started painting again with no financial constraints. I paint solely from the natural world. Many artists will find a particular focus in their practise and repeat a theme constantly if it proves successful with the buying public. That is great for the bank balance but not for the soul. I simply can’t do this. If a painting sells I think “Great! The buyer has completed the artistic journey in responding to the work and actually bought it to keep.” Buying art for decoration is a waste of money. Buying art for investment only is shameful. Art should be bought because it demands a response from the viewer - constantly, daily - over and over again. Every time the work is viewed. That response is unique to the viewer, yours alone and shared with the artist.
I paint in watercolour and oil in the traditional manner but with a contemporary twist. I suppose you could label me a modern realist although I don't like labels!
