My Profile

Katrina OShannessy

I am a mother of 5 and come from a small country town,Wondai in QLD. I am an emerging artist having only started painting &sculpture about 2.5 years ago. My main medium of choice is acylics but I do enjoy trying out different mediums like pencil, sculpture, water colour and oils. I guess you could say my work is hyper realistic but I do find myself emerged in abstract. I have been lucky enough to have been chosen by the Flying Arts for the Emerging Artists exhibition 2024 & 2025 which was such a highlight. Another highlight was having two pieces chosen by Lethbridge Gallery for the Small Scale Art Award 2024 in the Salon des Refuses. I was also elated to find out I am a finalist at the Brisbane Rotary Art Awards 2024. My entry into the Kenilworth Art Prize place 1st in the GourMay section this year & I was lucky enough to be recognised at the Mary Valley Art Awards in 2024 with the Overall Encouragement Award and 1st place recently 2025 in the Animalia section. I have been lucky & privileged to have placed in a few awards in different competitions, Aspects Art Awards 2 years running, Wondai Art Gallery 2021,2022,2023,Mary Valley Art Awards, Imbil Art Awards, and have been chosen as Peoples choice on many occasions. Participation in competitions has given me a boost of confidence to continue to pursure my artistic capabilities. It is also wonderful to spend time with like minded people to share ideas and concepts. Art gives me a place to escape, between teaching, the busy family life and being a mother, being creative is a way to unwind. You could say it keeps me grounded and I love that.
