| Alix O’Neil – Artist Biography
Alix O’Neil is an emerging artist renowned for her evocative use of watercolour and her ability to capture character, emotion, and feeling in her work. Born in Malaysia to Scottish parents, her artistic journey began with studies in Chinese Brush Painting. This discipline instilled in her a deep appreciation for fluidity, spontaneity, and the expressive potential of ink and watercolour. She was accepted into the College of Building and Printing in Glasgow, Scotland, but instead embarked on extensive European travel. In 1990, she settled in Sydney, Australia, and in 2021, she relocated to Agnes Water, Queensland, where her connection to nature and conservation continues to inspire her practice.
Alix’s mastery of watercolour is evident in the luminous quality of her paintings, where delicate washes and bold, expressive strokes harmoniously coexist. Her ability to render human and animal subjects with sensitivity and depth sets her apart, breathing life into each portrait she creates. Whether capturing the wisdom in an elder’s gaze, the playful spirit of an animal, or the quiet contemplation of a figure lost in thought, her work resonates with an authenticity that speaks to viewers on an emotional level.
Committed to continuous learning, Alix refines her skills through masterclasses and mentorships with esteemed artists such as Scott Breton, Scott Swinson, and Pamela Harnois. She embraces both traditional and contemporary techniques, allowing her work to evolve while maintaining its signature emotional depth and technical excellence.
Alix’s work is showcased and sold through various platforms, including her website, Instagram, The Blue Mirror Gallery (Gladstone, QLD), Reflections Studio (Agnes Water, QLD), The Bookshelf 1770 (Agnes Water, QLD), as well as online galleries such as Bluethumb and Artfan. She also accepts private commissions, bringing personalised artistic visions to life for clients in Australia and internationally.
Beyond her artistic achievements, Alix remains dedicated to giving back. She regularly donates paintings to charitable organisations and fundraising events, ensuring that her art serves a purpose beyond aesthetics—fostering awareness and support for meaningful causes
