Esther strinovich

Born in Perth Western Australia to Hungarian refugees, my early childhood was essentially of a European sensibility. My father had a flair for carpentry while my mother was an accomplished pianist, as I would also become. Classical music flowed through our house, mixed with the smell of fresh sawdust. My interest in art was kindled during my early years of high school, inspired by a very orthodox art teacher, Ms McCaull. Sketching and drawing became a favourite pastime after school, replacing homework!
My creative journey didn’t really begin until I was in my 30s, after having chosen nursing as my profession. I completed a Ba in Fine Art but it wasn’t until my two children began their schooling that I devoted my time to painting.
My themes are usually landscapes, from my love of nature, sometimes with figures, and still life. My environment is an important element to my paintings, unusual objects, patterns, light and texture find their way into my paintings. My concerns are with form and shape, light, drawing, composition, tone, texture, mood and atmosphere.
My mediums are pastel, for its immediacy, watercolour for its unpredictability, and oil, for their rich painterly colours. I have participated in many workshops by renowned Australian and international artists. Making my home in Melbourne, I have won many awards and sold many paintings during my 30 odd years of painting. I now call Brisbane my home.
I am moved by the rich heritage of painters of the past and my commitment and dedication is all consuming. I am continually learning and hopefully evolving as a painter and as a person. Painting is a wonderful obsession!
My other interests include gardening, archaeology, history and restoring old furniture
